Formation

Marble is a type of metamorphic rocks.

Marble starts as either limestone or dolomite, with a portion of the mineral calcite in it. If these are exposed to the right amount of heat and pressure, significant changes inMarble.

This heat or pressure causes a process known as recrystallization. That is, where do these tiny individual grains that are amended, the original stone, in this case in larger grains.

The result is that the original stone is transformed into marble.

Art

Marble has a long tradition as used in sculpture. This is due to several reasons.

Marble is a relatively soft stone, makes it easy to carve.

Marble formed from pure calcite cansometimes translucent, and light can easily penetrate the stone. This makes sculptures seam to glow when light is shone on them.

Unlike some rocks, minerals, their shape, do not marble layers inherent grains tend to arrange themselves in straight lines. If a stone is formed in layers of sculpted to break large portions of the rule to be random, so it is difficult to control, which look like the final statue. The individual grains in marble, however, do not form inLines and therefore you can chisel out as much or as little as you want.

Architecture

Marble is a very popular building material in architecture and design will be used.

Marble can be obtained in almost any shape, giant blocks, slabs or rough chunks.

The most popular shape for marble is in tile form.

Tiles can range from 4 "- 24" square, although larger tiles tend to crack less stable and more inclined to.

Care and maintenance

Marble has tiny pores in the surface that are too small to see with the bear's eye, but they are large enough to soakup moisture. Sometimes liquid, especially colorful liquids such as fruit juice can into the pores of the marble, they permanently stain to soak in water.

To this one can be prevented under the surface sealer be applied clog the pores making it impossible to penetrate the moisture in them.

A chemical barrier can also marble, which will form an invisible layer on the surface to be applied and further protects.
